Cellar & Basement Conversions Regulations in the West Midlands

Do I need local authority building regs and planning permission for my cellar conversion?

For most instances building regs will be required for your conversion or new excavation. Enquiries should be made in all circumstances to your local planning department.

Under normal circumstances planning permission is not necessary and works can be carried out on a simple building notice. Ask yourself 'why would anyone not want works carried out to building regs?' At the end of the conversion a certificate of compliance will be issued by the local authority which will enhance the value of your property if you decide to sell at a later date.

NOTE: Contact your local planning office for a current list of these charges.
